Re: Stade Rennais (Who are they?) Here is Celtic FC.

Of the French I know, does it not mean 'snob' in English? Like rich person, upper class?

Also how is your new (french) president getting on?

Re: Stade Rennais (Who are they?) Here is Celtic FC.

We also say "snob" in French, to describe someone who doesn't want to share his feelings with "lower" people, from whom he dislikes the cultural tastes.
"Prout-prout" takes the sense of "poule mouillée" ("wet chicken" ?) : like a coward ("couard", in french), added to quite a feminine behaviour.
Have a good day !
Our president is NOT a snob, all the guys from this forum who met him said he was a real cool and approachable man.

Thanks Isis, I knew he wasn't a snob, should have made that clearer. Was just wondering if there has been any significant changes in France from sarckosy's departure. wink

I"m sorry, I thought you were talking about Stade Rennais 's new president, Frederic de Saint-Sernin (old aristocrat family).
Hollande is cool and approachable too ! Nothing to compare with the modern fascist dwarf who preceded him. Very significant changes will be seen in a few months, but right now the state of mind is quite different : fair and brotherly political philosophy.

I have to disagree. Like our scottish friend said, I think a "prout prout" is more like a snob, or something like that. A "prout prout" is a "bourgeois".

Se dit de quelqu'un qui est trop distingué, précieux, qui fait beaucoup de manières. L'expression elle-même a une connotation très maniérée, très bourgeoise, largement surranée.

But, we don't care. ^^

Hi GC ,  wink

Just a little question because today it's a mémorial day . Have you in your family a member who fight in the north of france during the " Great War " in the British forces ?

Let's just say that the "honeymoon" between a new president and the people is finished already (it was rather short) and Hollande is now quite unpopular according to the opinion polls (which is helped by an intense bashing from the newspapers). My personal opinion is that his style is a little bit better than Sarkozy's (Hollande doesn't have this ridiculous show-off attitude) but his political decisions are by far too similar to Sarkozy's. I am quite disappointed so far even if I don't regret the midget.

My great grandfather fought in the Great War. I am unsure if he fought in France or not. His leg was blown off whilst in combat. But other than that there is no one in my family.

The British armed forces and Celtic and its fans is a controversial topic. LONG topic.

They are more than just 'bad'. tongue

One of our French players scored for us yesterday. Also I'm yet to see the goalkeeper we got on loan from Nantes 'Lubos Kamenar', he hasn't featured for us at all yet.

I think it's very funny, our fans as a whole don't believe he will put money in Celtic, but if he were to do so it could definitely add some spice to the spl.
